Slinky and Hed Kandi

The Slinky and Hed Kandi parties are back-to-back weekend events in Boracay organized by Big Fish, the same company that brought Paul van Dyk here in Manila last December 9. Slinky happened last March 26 while Hed Kandi will be this Saturday, April 2.

I’ve heard of Hed Kandi before. They’re a record label that produces compilations, mixes, and original dance music. Slinky, which I haven’t heard before, seems to be one of UK’s biggest clubs.

Anyway, I mentioned this because I really would’ve loved to go to these parties. I definitely didn’t go last Saturday and I’m 100% positive I can’t make it to the next one. Maybe I’ll get to attend next year’s, if ever. Mike, a friend of mine, was in Boracay last Holy Week and he went to the Slinky party as an ad agency rep for Smart, who is one of the major sponsors of the event. Lucky him got to stay in Boracay with free transportation and accomodations.

Avril Lavigne Bonez Tour

I’ve liked most of the Avril Lavigne songs I’ve heard so far. Among my most favorite songs of hers are “I’m With You” and “My Happy Ending.” So when I heard that she’ll be rocking Manila on March 31 (that’s today!) I wanted to go. It also helped that Simple Plan (singers of the hit single, “Welcome to my Life”) would be joining her. It would’ve been my second concert after Jars of Clay.

However, I didn’t like the venue—The Fort Open Field. For sure it would mean no seats. And there’s a possiblity that people would all get so rowdy in the mosh pits. So I’m not going.

My younger sister, who’s an absolute fan of hers, is going however. In fact, my older sister and I are giving her the ticket as a birthday present for her debut this April. I hope she enjoys it!

Moony in Manila

Moony is the artist that brought to us some of the most popular (and subsequently, cheesy—although it’s really hard not to like them) dance songs to hit the clubs. Her most popular songs are “Dove (I’ll Be Loving You),” “Flying Away,” and “Acrobats.” Before going on a solo career, she was the lead vocalist of the music group, DB Boulevard, whose songs include “Point of View” and “Believe,” both of which also became quite popular in the scene a few years back.

I’ve read from a friend-of-a-friend’s blog that Moony will be here in Manila. She’ll be gracing Club Halo on April 23. I’m not exactly a die-hard fan of hers, but I think it’d be interesting to see her perform her hit songs live.

Songs of the Moment

I don’t have a single song of the week right now, but here are the songs that I’m currently tripping on:

  • Ben Folds - “Wandering”

  • Tori Amos - “Sleeps With Butterflies”

  • Natasha Beddingfield - “Unwritten”

  • Bonnie Bailey - “Ever After” (Eric’s Beach Mix)

  • Ben Lee - “Catch My Disease”

  • Missy Higgins - “Scar”

  • Deborah Cox - “Easy As Life” (Tony Moran Mix)
