Runner-up at Proudly Pinoy

8:31 pm PHT

I did not expect to win the Proudly Pinoy logo design contest that I joined. As I mentioned before, these types of free-for-all contests is like winning a lottery. Almost.

So I was just a bit surprised to be one of the runners-up. My logo containing the Rizal monument was the clear favorite. The judges said, “If this had been a poster competition, the entry by SEAV would have won hands down.” Wow, I’m really flattered. While I know that effective logos can work well in various sizes and in varied circumstances, I did not consider how my logo would really look when resized down to small sizes. When reduced in size, my Rizal monument becomes almost unidentifiable. So I understand why I didn’t win the contest. Hehehe.

I’m also a bit surprised by the choice of winner (shown to the right). It wasn’t in my list of favorites because I thought that it lacked the x-factor. Well, it’s simple, very Pinoy, and still looks nice when resized to smaller dimensions, but it’s just doesn’t scream “Well done!” to me. I also think that it would look a bit off when placed on a dark background even when the color of the letters are made white. I also agree with Rico that the registered mark ® should’ve been ditched though, unless the logo was really registered as a trademark with the with Philippine Intellectual Property Office, which I doubt they did yet.

Anyway, I’d like to thank all the support and comments of the people who said my logo was better than the winner. I’ll admit that I really like my design but it doesn’t look well when resized to smaller proportions, as I’ve said. But to those who want to display my logo, you can now download it in its original size. And yes, Filipinayzd, I’ve modified it according to your suggestion. I’ve released this logo under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 License. Enjoy! :)
