That Song Game

Taking a leaf from many other blogs, I’ve decided to play that song game where I list down twenty music artists that I like and you try to guess my most favorite song of those artists. Whenever someone gives a correct song in the comments, I’ll update the post to show the correct answer, the person who got it, and some notes on that song. Try to give only one guess per artist; don’t use machine gun tactics!
I’ve chosen these artists since I like at least three of their songs and I’ve never hinted in this blog before what songs of theirs I really like (unlike Jars of Clay, Paul van Dyk, Kitchie Nadal, and Deepest Blue). I’ve also chosen these artists from various genres so that you can see that my musical taste is quite varied.
Chicane - “Love on the Run,” Rowen. This is the case of first love. “Love on the Run” is the first song of Chicane’s (aka Nick Bracegirdle) that I heard and then liked. It’s repetitive, but I dig the fast-paced beats, the synths, and the light lyrics. “If you could look into the sun again, ’cause I believe now and then…” I really enjoy many of Chicane’s other songs so I had a tough time choosing my most favorite; notable runners-up include “No Ordinary Morning,” “Halcyon,” and “Daylight.” I’ll definitely buy his album Easy to Assemble when it will be re-released.
The Calling
Parokya ni Edgar
Maria Mena
The Corrs
Underworld - “Born Slippy Nuxx,” Jor-El and Benj. Classic Underworld. My fave remix is Atomic Hooligan’s which was featured on the Ministry of Sound: The Annual 2005 Deluxe compilation. I actually created a script to help me memorize the lyrics and the way it was recited (not sung). (I can actually recite the song from heart now). I also heard the song when I went to this year’s Fête, so that might’ve given you a clue. Other songs of theirs that I like are “Spikee,” “Rez,” “Bigmouth,” “Cowgirl,” and “Mmm Skyscraper I Love You.”
Toto
Maroon 5 - “She Will Be Loved,” Rhenz. Tight runners-up are “Must Get Out” and “Sunday Morning.” I quickly grew tired of “This Love” though it’s still enjoyable. “I don’t mind spending everyday out on your corner in the pouring rain. Look for the girl with the broken smile; ask her if she wants to stay awhile….”
Bamboo - “Noypi,” Joyce. Their first single is still the best for me. Sorry, Jor-el and Benj, I like a few other songs better than “Hallelujah.”
Avril Lavinge - “I’m With You,” Jor-El. The best part is when she screams at the end. ("Screams” doesn’t seem to be an appropriate word.) Anyway, Avril is quite a talented songwriter and this song also shows off her vocal prowess. It also helps that the song is perfect for all those lonely people out there. ("Take me by the hand, take me somewhere new; I don’t know who you are but I, I’m with you.”)
Alanis Morissette
Linkin Park
Rivermaya
Backstreet Boys
Enya
Savage Garden - “Crash and Burn,” Jor-El. I really love the video, especially that last part where Darren Hayes does the sign language for the chorus. The song “I Knew I Loved You” is a close second.
Janet Jackson
matchbox twenty
Eminem
Mandy Moore
Update: I’ve replaced Mariah Carey with Toto since I really can’t decide which song of hers is my most favorite. The answer would’ve been “Always Be My Baby” but it seems i also equally like “Butterfly” and “Dreamlover.” “One Sweet Day” might’ve qualified, but it’s a collaboration with Boyz II Men, so it doesn’t count.
