Yay! I have finally reached the 100-sight milestone on my secondary blog, Vista Pinas, where I take you on a virtual tour of Philippine-related locations in the Philippines and around the world via the satellite imagery found in Google Maps.
When I initially launched Tanawing Pinoy (the original name) back in February 2006, I was worried that I would quickly run out of places to feature because back then, only northern Cavite, southcentral Bulacan, and northwestern Pampanga had high-resolution satellite pictures, as I discussed more than two years ago. Now after numerous updates that added five cities in Mindanao in April last year, tons of places in June including Metro Manila, some more places in October, then sporadic updates this year in March, June, and July, I’ll probably never run out of places to show in Vista Pinas.
One of the sights I enjoyed researching and writing about in Vista Pinas was about the Bells of Balangiga. I did some serious sleuthing around the Net in order to find the exact spot where two of the bells are currently located. The article on San Roque Dam was also interesting since I got to see striking before and after views of the dam during construction and after the reservoir was filled up. I also got to write for the Google Sightseeing, the inspiration of Vista Pinas, for their Reader Takeover Week, where I featured Mactan Shrine.
If you haven’t done so already, I encourage you to subscribe to Vista Pinas either through your favorite newsreader or aggregator or via e-mail updates. You’ll be able to learn quite a lot about the Philippines (I know I did), and you can get ideas of places to visit to get your Lakbayan grade up!
